Black Dwarf (Dwendeng Itim)



Many folklore tell about different types of dwarves (dwende), most of them said that the black dwarf is the most malevolent of all. Its appearance is dirty, it has a bad attitude, and it often plays tricks on people it takes an interest in. some stories say the black dwarf is playful and brings good luck. If you see a black dwarf, it can bring fortune into your life, but you must not disturb them.

Red Dwarf (Dwendeng Pula)



The red dwarf, folklore says is the bravest and most fearsome. They are terrifying, and if one shows itself to people, it could be a bad omen for you or a family member. One should never make a deal with a red dwarf because they are said to be cunning. If you do strike a deal, they might not honor the agreement. It’s best to avoid them as much as possible.


Blood Dwaf (Duendeng Mangalo)

The blood dwarf or Mangalo is a stoic type of dwarf that likes to drink blood of animals, stories tell that they give gold to people they favour, not only gold but good luck. The Mangalo is sometimes considered an Aswang because it drinks blood, and is said to be feared by other type of dwarves





White Dwarf (Dwendeng Puti)



The white dwarf is quiet, and if it shows itself, do not talk to it because once it has your attention, it will play tricks on you. However, they tend to be playful, especially with children. You need to stay calm when interacting with them. They are said to have knowledge of healing, especially for those who have been cursed (nabarang).

Green Dwarf (Dwendeng Berde)



The green dwarf is also playful, particularly with children. It is said to bring luck in gambling. However, you should not fully trust them because they can be fickle. They are elusive when called for a conversation, so you must coax them gently. It is suggested to use a child when calling or talking to them.


While there are many types of dwende based on their color and personality, the elders and believers say that the most important thing is to show them respect to avoid being punished or tricked.
