Dalakitnon

Dalakitnon

In Bicol mythology, the Dalaketnon are believed to be a type of engkanto (supernatural being) that originated from the Visayas. They are considered extremely good looking but malevolent, or evil, engkanto. The Dalaketnons are often described as elf-like creatures who live in Dalakit trees (also known as Balete or Dakit trees), which is where they get their name—Dalakitnon, meaning "from the Dalakit tree." ¨¨Dalaket doon, Dalaket noon

In Visayan culture, they are depicted as handsome men and beautiful women, resembling noble figures from pre-Hispanic Philippines. The men are said to have light-colored skin and dark hair, while the women have bronze-brown skin and brown hair. They are also known for their leaf-shaped, pointy ears.

In modern depictions, Dalaketnons are often shown as gothic-like beings who live in mansion-like homes and try to blend into mortal society. They are believed to abduct people, bringing them to their realm and hosting feasts where they serve Black Rice. Anyone who eats this food falls under their spell and becomes their captive. Dalaketnons are often linked to other malevolent creatures like the Tiyanak, Aswang, and Manananggal and are considered the rulers of these beings.
